Peschiera is on a very important strategic location, being the location where the river the Mincio flows from Lake Garda. The Mincio, a navigable river, was an important trade route to the Po and to the Adriatic Sea. In addition, the river is the border between Venice and Lombardy.

No wonder that we find an impressive fortress here, built in the 16th century by the Venetians to defend the city and the port. In 1796 Napoleon used this location as his headquarters, and later, after the peace of Campoformio, the fortress fell into Austrian hands. And here as well, you can find a castle originating in the times of the powerful Scaligeri. Within the centre you can enjoy yourself on the squares, terraces, romantic vistas, flowers everywhere, shops where you can by virtually anything….and sometimes it’s very crowded.
At the river bank, outside of the walls, you’ll find a large port where there’s always something to see for the interested spectator.
Alongside the lake in Eastern direction, there are stretched pebble- and sand beaches, with shallow waters and sufficient parking space. Plus, the beaches are accessible free of charge.
3 km away, in Northeast direction of Peschiera, is the giant amusement park Gardaland. Here you can find anything you’d expect from an amusement park. The ticket allows access to all rides. From Peschiera you can make many beautiful and interesting trips, for instance to the Parco Sigurtà and the Park Cavour.
