Desenzano
The location where Desenzano is currently located, now is the oldest occupied area around Lake Garda. Several archeological discoveries were made originating from the prehistoric era, the most important of which an oak plow. But throughout the ages, Desenzano remained important.
This is undoubtedly due to its location, which is incredibly favorable for trade. And it still has this benefit in this modern era: An own access from and to the Autostrada A 4. In addition, Desenzano has a large very well equipped port, the home of the shipping company that maintains the ferry services over the lake.
However, much more sociable is the small old port with its many inviting terraces and the beautiful old buildings around it. The large antique market that is held here once a month, attracts large crowds. They stroll along the many stalls that are positioned next to each other like a huge ribbon through the old streets.
One of the best of all the attractions, is the Roman Villa that was discovered not so long ago. The mosaic floors have been perfectly preserved, with the ‘Animali in Corsa’ as the absolute climax. And last but not least, Desenzano has enough to offer for the younger tourists that like to enjoy themselves in clubs and pubs.
